In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?

Of all the anime shows to get a new season, FLCL would be the last thing I expected, since the original ended so perfectly and was just the right amount of episodes to capture that manic creativity and energy. Still, I am cautiously optimistic.

“new season of FLCL”… wut. Wow, talk about time between seasons. I loved FLCL, it is one of the few anime that I will go back and watch again. I had no idea they were talking about making another season, I think I’ll be cautiously optimistic as well.

Yeah, I mean it could just be a cash grab, given the first one ended perfectly I’m not sure why you’d need a second season.

But eh, doesn’t mean it’ll be bad. It’ll be interesting to see what direction they go, I’m guessing the themes will be entirely different than a coming of age story.
