Pre-quest

I don’t see why I have to wait. The whole system is ridiculous.

What system?
The rotation they have for the shacks. Instead of sharing the wealth, we each get a turn.
And since I’m new, I’m practically at the bottom of the list.
Which means I’ll have to spend another year sleeping in the train car.

I agree. No reason not to give everyone four walls and a roof.
Exactly. Say, you’re a real smart one, and I don’t say that about just anybody.
Problem is, the people in charge here aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.
But don’t worry, I’ll figure something out. I always do.

You have to respect the laws of the town you live in.
Follow, yes. Respect? Eh…depends on the law.

Sure, I get what you’re saying. You want to start a rebellion. Perhaps I can help.
Oh no no no, that’s the last thing I want to do. I mean shit, you haven’t seen me in a fight.
Besides, I’m sure some of these people would like any old excuse to bump me from the rotation.
No, I’ll figure something out. I always do.

Quit complaining. You’re lucky to even have a bed.
Hey, luck has nothing to do with it. Worming my way into this town was one of my finer pieces of work.
That’s partly why I don’t want to press my luck and start making demands.

What’s wrong with sleeping outside?
Well, it’d be  fine if I was an actual molerat. But this hide of mine isn’t made for the cold.
But knowing me, I doubt I’ll be out here for long. Molerat always finds a way.

Why do they call you molerat?
Well, I doubt they’re referring to my face, what with my dashing good looks.
A friend gave it to me a while back. Well, not really a friend so much as a guy I knew.
I don’t think he meant it as a compliment.

What brought you to this town?
I’m hiding out. When you’ve betrayed half the wastes, it’s hard to find a place where somebody isn’t cursing your name.

You seem almost proud to be a rat.
Hey, we’re all good at something, right? No point being ashamed of it.

Is it wise to tell a stranger you’re being sought after?
Not really. Anyone who talks to me without pinching their nose has to be a good person.
So I figure telling you is like telling.

What are your thoughts on the other settlers?
Nice people, for a bunch of schmucks. Although I’m still kind of pissed Randy won’t give me a gun.
Not that I’d know how to use it mind you, but it’s the thought that counts.

Quest

Help!

Is it over?

scene with Chapel

Oh god, am I glad to see you two.

Is that all of them?

What?

I’m asking if that’s all of them! I’m not gonna walk around the corner and run into a raider with minigun, am I?

Yeah, that’s all of them, I think. I mean, there were nine of them when you got here, so I’m pretty sure you got ’em all.

All right. What happened here?

The raiders came into town one night and locked us up in one of the sheds. Didn’t really say why.

They’re raiders. What did you expect? A warning?

Well, that would’ve been nice. I get what you mean though.

So what’s with the fire?

Yeah…that’s sort of my fault. See, we had an escape all worked out. Four of us were gonna head over to the weapons cache and grab the guns, but I tripped over a rock, and we didn’t make it past the guard.

As for the fire, well, I think they were trying to make an example of us. First it was Chet, then Randy, then Marie. I was next.

Then you’re lucky we showed up when we did.
I know, right? I couldn’t have planned it better in my head.

You don’t seem too shaken over it.
Yeah…I’m sure it’s just the shock.

I’m sorry. Were they your friends?
Friends might be a stretch. But it’s a big loss, no doubt about that.

Good men died. I don’t think I’m out of line when I say it should’ve been you.
It probably should’ve. Funny how it always works out that way.

What about the others?

Still locked in the shed behind you.

Okay, we’ll get them out. Stay or leave, I don’t care.

to player

You might wanna do as Chapel says. He doesn’t like it when he has to ask twice.

With Marie dead, I guess that means someone else is getting her shack. Hehe, and guess whose turn it is.

post-quest

Welcome to Casa de Molerat! I hope you enjoy your stay.
Although let’s be honest, I really couldn’t care less.

You’re not at all sad about the death of the people in town?
Sad? Those raiders were the best thing that could’ve happened to me.
It’s funny, people say karma will catch up to me someday. Well, either karma’s slow, or I’m just really, really fast.
Because it doesn’t look like it’ll catch me anytime soon.

How’s everything in town?
It’s going great. Randy’s dead, which puts me in charge of the guns.
Marie’s gone too, so it’s my turn to get the shack. Things couldn’t have gone better if I planned it.

You’re opening a store?
Why not? I don’t know how to fire a gun, so I might as well sell ’em and make some caps.
It’s the American way.

What do you have for sale?
Take a look.
Everything you see here.

Goodbyes
See ya.
Later.

Things are looking up.
I really am the luckiest guy on earth.
Yeah?
Need something?
