When our the show hours?
Show kicks off around 5pm, and goes on until morning.
You come back any other time, Carmen will be parked right on that stool over there, usually getting busy with a bottle of scotch.

player comes back to tell Jack that Charlie’s dead, first sees a thug threatening him.

Now you gotta make a decision. Go for the power play, or sit in the penalty box.

(a bit scared of a thug talking to him)
I’m not doing anything! Look, Charlie will be here, all right! He’s just got some things to take care of. But you’ll get your caps, I swear.

Scared, huh? You should be.

Damn, I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up. Where is that son of a bitch?

I need to speak to you about Charlie.
Well, I hope you know where he is. I’ve got debt collectors telling me they’re gonna shut this place down if he doesn’t pay what he owes!

You could let Mister Grant take over. He seems to have the wherewithal.
Are you sure? That asshole wants to turn this place into a casino. But I suppose that’s better than being kicked out.
Still, that isn’t my decision to make. It’s Charlie’s nightclub.

Why not pay the debtors out of your own pocket? From what I hear you have the caps.
How did you…(sigh)…look, maybe I have the caps. But loaning them to Charlie is like throwing them in the ocean.
I’m not gonna do it, even if it means losing the club.

I’m afraid Charlie’s dead.
Dead? Are you sure? Huh…and he doesn’t have any kin either.
But I don’t know. All this responsibility…it’s not something I ever wanted.

Charlie will have a hard time paying back anyone from beyond the grave.
Are you saying Charlie’s dead?

People need this place. It’s important.
Charlie used to say the same thing. He’d always be talking about chasing your dreams.

But he also said it was important to have a place for the people who woke up. That’s what this club was.

And what will happen to Carmen if the nightclub closes?
(Sigh) You’re right. She’d have to go to the Wrangler, and sing in the lobby for tips…and do god knows what else.

I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Maybe, but what the fuck else would you do?
Heh, you got a point. I may not want to be the boss, but I sure as shit like being the bartender.

Then let Mister Grant take over.
I don’t know. He seems like a nice cat, don’t get me wrong, but he has a different vision than Charlie.
Charlie hated casinos. He said that’s where dreams went to die.

But if he’s really dead, I guess it doesn’t really matter what he wants. His dream died with him.

So you’re buying the place?
Yeah, I guess I am. It’s pretty wild to think about it, me owning thic club…but I guess nothing much will change.
I’ll talk to the debtors and see if we can’t square this away.
Because I don’t think these cats give a hoot whether Charlie’s alive or not.

Either way, I think you should have this. It’s the least I can do.
If you hadn’t found Charlie, this club would be a goner for sure.

(alternate)
So you’ll talk to Grant?

Yeah, I’ll have him meet with the debtors and see if he can’t square this away.
Hopefully he can talk them down before anyone gets hurt.

Make sure you come back and check with him later. He’ll probably want to give you a reward for your work.
Besides, you’ll probably want to see what he does with the place. I’m glad at least somebody will.

added hello

Charlie always said I had one foot in the club, and one foot out the door. Heh, one foot in the club.
That cat was always finding ways to rib me about my leg. I’m gonna miss that idiot.
OLD/ARCHIVED LINES

Scene with Grant

Sorry sir, but he’s a private man, and the truth is, I haven’t seen him in weeks.

Aren’t you the least bit worried? What if something happened to him?

Buddy, I’m terrified. With him gone, I’m in charge. I give us another month before the entire place collapses.

Well, if he does show up, let him know I’m here.

I’ll be sure to pass it along.

Scenes with Carmen 1

Hey Jack, when are we gonna hire some new help around here?

You know how it is. The owner spent all his caps classing this joint up.

(Joking)Is that what those stains on the floor are? Class?

He had the caps to spruce up the joint. Not to keep it clean.

Scene 2

We’re quite a pair, aren’t we Jack?

That’s right. A regular beauty and the beast.

Ha, I do admit sugar, I fit the part. But you’re going to have to get a touch more feminine before we can call you a beauty.

Scene 3

So what happened with your cousin anyway?

Ha, I never pegged you as the gossiping type, hon.

Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just that there’s a lot of rumors going around, and I want to get it straight.

Doesn’t surprise me. It’s an old story. People have been telling it since Adam and Eve.
But if you want to get it straight sugar, then you shouldn’t ask me.

I’ll have a martini with an olive kilt.
Ha, Carmen sent you didn’t she. All right, but tell her to go easy on the stuff, she’s gotta another set coming up.

And if she loses her pipes, then I’m out of work.

I want to talk about Carmen.
That bird can sing, can’t she? Makes doing the job easy.

How did you get this job?
It was a favor for the owner. I got a club foot you see, and he said he wanted someone with a handicap. I said he was loony.
I told him you want to draw these cats in, not scare them away.

Why did your boss want to hire a handipcapped person?
Well, his thinking was, the people who come to this club have it rough.
They’re sad, lonely, and feeling bad about life.
So I ask him, what’s that got to do with me?
And he says, “Seeing me hobble around bar makes them feel better about themselves!” Ha!

He’s right. The more I look at you, the better I feel.
Ha, then stick around and have a drink. By morning, you’ll be feeling like a person again.

That’s fucked up.
Hey, we’re still in business, so I can’t say he’s wrong.

Is that why most of the chairs are pointed at the stage?
You might be on to something. But I think that’s less about me and more about her.

I think you’re rather handsome.
Ha, you’ve got a lot of class, my friend, or a little too much to drink. Well, in that case, have another one on the house. Maybe by morning we’ll have my face on a pin-up, hahaha!

What can you tell me about the owner of this nightclub?
Oh, not you too. I’ve already got Mister Grant on my case, and half the guards.

He’s not here. If I knew where, I’d drag him back here myself.

Hellos
What’ll it be?
What can I get you?
Need a drink?
Hope you’re thirsty.
What’s your poison?
Coming right up.
Sure, just what you see here.
Looking to drown your sorrows, huh? I hear ya.
Long day at work I bet. Well, you’ve come to right place.
Not too many cats wet their whistle when Carmen’s on stage. So I’m all yours.  What can I get you?
Come back soon.
See ya.
