Settler 9

Don’t know if you’d be okay with a ghoul on your settlement, but I really need the work.

Work for me.
Wow, it’d be an honor. I’ll head over there right away.

Idles

You don’t wince when you look at me. That makes you okay in my book.

There’s a lot of benefits to being a ghoul. For one, you don’t have to shave.

If we have any excess crops, we should donate it to other towns in the area.

I know I’ll never be handsome, but you know what else I’ll never be? Vain.

You can predict the weather just by looking at your dog’s coat. It gets thicker in the winter.

Insects will build their nests in a shed if a thunderstorm’s coming. They can sense it months ahead.

If you see a molerat with a tan, it means the summer’s gonna be a long one.

I don’t have many friends. Being a ghoul makes it hard to get close.

I learned to survive on my own for the longest time. This is going to take some getting used to.

Plants can tell you if a winter’s gonna be cold too. Look at a husk of corn, see how thick it is.

It used to be the more mushrooms, the more snow was coming. Now they just tell you where the radiation is.

The brighter the shroom, the deader the soil.

High clouds mean good weather.

Clear moon, cold soon.

Ring around the moon, rain coming soon.

Red sunset means the air’s dry. But the same sky at sunrise means a good chance of rain.

The other day, I tried chatting with some of the others. What do you do when there’s awkward pauses?

It’s hard sometimes, just trying to have a normal conversation. It’s like learning how to ride a bike. I think that’s the phrase. Not sure if I’m using it right though.

I think I’ll try and make a list of things I have in common with the other settlers. Maybe that’ll help make conversation easier.

I heard some people get together and play board games, but I don’t know. I played Blast Radius once, but it was pretty offensive. Probably a bad idea.

I’m trying to get better with making eye contact when I talk to people.

It’s strange being around humans again. Maybe it’s not so bad after all.

Goodneighbor was supposed to be a ghoul town, but the humans there always made me feel uncomfortable. This place is different.

I’ve always had an appreciation for nature. Farming’s in my blood.

I met a trader the other day that likes flowers. I gave her a few tips on growing violets. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I think I made a friend.

For some reason I like talking to traders more than I do settlers. I think the distance helps.

Hopefully we get more rain this season.

I used to live in a trailer, with nothing but a cot, a dresser, and this toy monkey. During rainstorms I used to wind it up, let it bang along with the water hitting the roof.
Always made me smile.

If I had a chance to be human again, I don’t know if I’d take it. It’s almost like suicide, in a way. It’d turn me into someone else.

I hear you’re doing a lot of good out there. Maybe the next generation will work together with people, the way you have.

Good to see you.

Hey.

Nice to have you back.

Thanks for listening to me. For some reason it’s easier for me to talk to you than it is the others.
