Dar’Rakki is an immigrant who came to Skyrim at the urging of his friend Adanja to join the Khajiit Caravans. However, after crossing the border the two were attacked by bandits, resulting in Adanja’s death. As Adanja had promised Dar’Rakki she would remain by her side, the Khajiit views her death as a betrayal, and has difficulty trusting others as a consequence.

The Conspiracy of the 7000 Steps
This minor quest has Dar’Rakki asking the PC to count the steps to High Hrothgar. An estimate of the number can be found in a book near the NPC Zarlak at North Skybound Watch. In earlier version, the PC could immediately provide Dar’Rakki with an answer, but now must walk up the steps and return or retrieve the book first.

The quest has multiple outcomes, depending on whether you tell him the correct number, convince him there are 7000 steps via a speechcraft check, or lie and fail to persuade him.
